YLC : On The Road To DC & Maryland

Several youth leadership members went on the road to the National PAL Youth Mentoring Summit on July 25th through the 28th. YLC Coordinator, Ms. Stephanie Coxum, chose 8 teens to represent Dunn PAL in Potomac, Maryland at the William F. Bolger Center. The overall experience was live, interesting, and educational. There were many motivational speakers there to share knowledge with the youth. There was a dance, breakouts, and interactions with other youth from several PAL chapters from across the nation. There were heart-to-heart sessions for both the girls and boys, separately. We also travelled to Washington D.C. to see the US Capitol building and to meet NC senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr. We sat down with Mr. Tillis in his office and talked about his job and about making a difference into young people’s lives. One thing that I have learned from the youth summit is that you can take risks on your path and use that direction to guide you to your goals. I really enjoyed myself at the summit because I had a chance to break out of my shell and communicate with other young adults that are making a difference in their communities, just as I am.
