Summer Camp: Week 4 Recap

On Tuesday, July 16, the children visited the Cape Fear History Museum and also toured the historic Poe House in downtown Fayetteville.

They learned about the stark contrast between growing up during the early 1900’s versus today. Many of the rooms in the house were left as they were when the Poe family lived in them over a century ago. The students were allowed to handle a replica of an old viewfinder in the parlor of the house. Upstairs, they toured the childrens’ rooms as well, where they discovered as many as 5 or 6 people may have shared a room at one time.

Afterwards, they moved to the Cape Fear history portion of the museum and toured civil war-era sections. There, they learned about old towns and how they built the economy through trade and agriculture.

Thursday’s trip included a ride to the Smithfield Cinemas to watch How to Train Your Dragon 3. Upon arrival, students were given their own box of popcorn and a small beverage to enjoy during the movie. After, everyone headed to Tart Park in Dunn to eat lunch and visit the playground.
