Summer Camp: Week 3 Recap

Back from the week off for Independence Day, PAL students and staff returned Monday to kick off week 3 of summer camp.

On Monday and Tuesday, the students were visited by a Christian organization to learn more about the religion through interactive stories and activities.

Wednesday, students and staff headed to the Dunn Public Library for space-themed arts and crafts. The students used contact paper in the shape of the Saturn to create their own version of the planet. Using filler paper in a variety of colors, students placed it on the sticky contact paper to fill in the outline. After lunch, everyone headed outside for a rocket launch demonstration using toy rockets.

Once the rockets drifted back down to Earth, the PAL crew headed to Stewart Theater on N. Wilson Avenue for a magic show by magician Dean Alan. Several PAL students were selected to assist in various acts where Alan made objects disappear, mysteriously picked matching cards chosen by students, and passed a solid rope through his body. Many people left in wonderment, questioning, “How?”

The Raleigh Museum of Life & Sciences was the final stop of the week on Thursday. Students walked through exhibits learning about wildlife and the ecosystem. Exhibits included live fish and other aquatic animals, life-like replicas of woodland creatures, and interactive stations on the environment.
