YLC Elections This Week

This Friday, October 26th, the Youth Leadership Council will be hosting their annual election meeting. At this meeting, the students who participate vote for YLC President, Vice President, Secretary, Sergeant in Arms, and grade-level representatives. After the elections are over, we hold an induction ceremony for the new and/or re-elected officers. Miss Stephanie Coxum gives the welcoming speech and introduces the officers. At last years election, our Sergeant in Arms position went to Nathan Williams, Secretary went to Kennisha Robinson, Vice President went to NaDreamia Burnett and I was elected President.
The Induction ceremony last year was very fun. The members of YLC got together and rehearsed the song “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson, the Joyful Noise version. At the end of the ceremony we all got together and sang it in front of the audience. Most of us were nervous about the performance.
As President, I had to give a speech. I can honestly say that it was not my best speech but I have made a lot of progress and improvements since then. At first, I was very nervous about taking on the role of President because I did not know anything about what procedures I would need to follow or what it took to be a good leader.  As time went on, I started getting the hang of everything with plenty of help from Miss Stephanie Coxum and former YLC President NaDreamia Burnett. I enjoyed working along my fellow YLC officers and members and would definitely do it all again. It has been one of the best experiences I have had and I plan on running for President again this year.
